Peanuts are an excellent plant for kids to grow. And of course, a very recognisable crop! From planting to harvesting, the peanuts take less than 100 days. Attractive pea-shaped yellow flowers are followed by a ‘peg’ that grows and penetrates the soil, from which the peanut pods develop. A good friable soil will see the plant grow quickly and create many flowers and pegs. Please do not give a nitrogen fertiliser, as Peanuts are legumes and make their own Nitrogen. An application of Dolomite would be helpful. Keep well-watered, but keep foliage dry to prevent fungal diseases.
