Famous for their powerful fragrance, hyacinths are suitable for potting or in the garden, but must have good drainage and a cool winter. If planting in pots, make sure the pots do not sit in the sun after planting or the stems and flowers will be very disappointingly short.
Plant 12-15 cm deep in mid to late autumn, fertilise lightly with a balanced fertiliser in early spring.
